Expectation Is Our Teacher
This evening, I was thinking about the important role our expectations play and how they can be an accurate measuring tool for knowing what is real. In short, gauging how often our expectations are either met or fall short provides a direct look into where we fall prey to false beliefs.
We form our expectations based on our understanding of how life operates. If those expectations are being met consistently, then we can surmise that our understanding of reality is more clear than when our expectations are continuously shattered.
I always make it a point to pay attention when my expectations are let down. When this happens, don’t just work on getting through the disappointment. Rather, make shifts in your thinking and behavior. Change your expectations until they begin to better align with reality.
With this practice, life gets easier and more enjoyable with time.
