Bug Out Hat
When you live deep in the woods, summer bugs can be a nuisance. Whether you’re walking through spider webs on the trail, trying to avoid biting flies and mosquitos, or wanting to keep those pesky gnats off of your face, having the proper gear can make the difference between a perfect day in nature and a miserable day in the woods.
I recently purchased a couple of Bug Helios hats from Outdoor Research and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase.
Boonie hats keep the sun off your face and neck, look cool, and this one is super light, breathable, and comfortable. The best part, however, is the stowaway bug netting that pops out the back of the hat, protecting your face and neck from all the tiny critters.
The hat has a strap to keep it secured to your head or to let it fall back over your neck when not in use. The net also has a drawstring if you need to keep bugs from crawling inside.
The hat offers UPF 50+ sun protection and small magnets secure the netting, so there are no zippers or velcro to get in the way. When you have the netting down, it is easy to breathe and see where you’re going. Outdoor Research definitely built this hat for the summer heat when bugs are at their peak.
I saw some cheaper hats out there, but the high-quality materials and construction, along with the superb functionality, make this purchase sensible.
