The Flood
After the skies cleared from the hard rain all weekend, I went to the creek to see if it was swollen. The last time we had a heavy downpour, I spotted beavers for the first time since moving here.
To my surprise, the creek had massively flooded the entire area. In the time that I’ve been here, the creek has never looked that way. I’m not sure if the nearby reservoir was draining water or if some natural dams broke, but the water was crazy. The two streams that are normally about 4 feet wide each had joined into a 30 or 40 foot wide bed of water.
I used the drone (I’ll post the video later) to check if the flooding was localized, but the entire area was holding water. The good news is that our home is substantially higher in elevation than the area where the creek sits. However, I may have lost one trail camera near the creek that was completely submerged.
I love nature’s power and the way it disregards our self-declared self-importance.
